Sex crimes taskforce arrests 339 in California
A statewide sex crimes taskforce arrested 339 people last month in several locations. According to police, 156 of those arrested could face charges for solicitation. The remaining 180 participated in or supported human trafficking operations around the state.

Members of the taskforce posed online as juveniles to identify individuals looking to abuse minors. In addition to the arrests, law enforcement agencies recovered 50 victims of human trafficking. 14 of the recovered individuals were minors who had been forced into prostitution.

The Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force has operated since 2015. In that time, they have recovered 300 victims of human trafficking, the majority of whom were minors. They have also arrested more than 1,500 people for soliciting or trafficking offenses.

Los Angeles sex crimes lawyer

When you face charges for sexual offenses, hire an experienced sex crimes lawyer like Robert Helfend. Mr. Helfend has more than 30 years of experience in criminal defense. He takes sex crimes cases in Los Angeles County and throughout Southern California.

Solicitation is a misdemeanor offense. A first-time conviction can result in a jail term and fine, but repeated arrests can lead to extended jail terms. Depending upon the circumstances of your arrest, you could also face additional penalties, including the suspension of your driver’s license.

A solicitation conviction does not automatically qualify as a sex offense that requires offender registration. The law, however, gives judges broad discretion. Even though registration is not automatic or mandatory, a judge could still order you to register.

This alone underscores the need to hire an experienced, aggressive criminal defense lawyer. Proper representation in court can help you avoid the most serious consequences of a conviction. Mr. Helfend does not judge his clients based on the charges against them. Instead, he simply works hard to get the charges against you reduced or dropped. When that’s not possible, he strives to achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

Don’t rely on an inexperienced attorney, and don’t attempt to represent yourself. A solicitation arrest can be a source of great embarrassment. It’s understandable that you just want to make the issue “go away.” The best way to preserve your reputation and your dignity, however, is to rely on professional, experienced counsel.
