A California couple on the run for 17 years faces sex crimes charges following their Florida arrest. According to police, the couple operated a private school in Crenshaw that appealed to African-American families.
The man is a registered sex offender in California. His wife allegedly also participated in the crimes. Police originally investigated the couple after some school families accused the couple of molesting their children. The couple, who founded the school in 1998, fled the area. Investigators in Florida discovered the pair living under assumed names after a CNN show profiled them.
The man pleaded no contest to sex crimes involving a minor in 1996, and received a 2-year prison sentence. Upon his release, he and his wife founded the Enlightened Minds School, using an assumed identity. Further, he registered as a sex offender in Lancaster, but actually lived in Los Angeles using his assumed identity. The man told parents that he had served in the Air Force and had earned a master’s degree in social work. In reality, he did not serve in the military, and bought his degree from a diploma mill.
