A Rancho Cucamonga man accused of robbing and casing banks in a four-county area, including Los Angeles, was arrested in September. Joseph Adel Noriega, 37, was charged following a failed bank robbery attempt in Pasadena, but investigators believe that Noriega is also responsible for at least seven other successful bank robberies, and a number of other bank robbery attempts between June and September 2015. Police also believe that Noriega cased a number of other banks in his target area over the summer.
Bank robbery suspect tied to other incidents
Noriega, who has been tentatively linked to as many as 12 bank robberies, is charged with committing bank robbery in Monrovia, Duarte, Pasadena, Ontario, Chino, Norco, Fontana and Beaumont. He may also face additional charges related to bank robbery or other bank robbery attempts. Noriega was dubbed the “Bluto Bandit” by investigators because he wore a fake black beard during the heists, which made him resemble Bluto, a character in Popeye cartoons.
