A retired Claremont dentist was arrested and charge with five counts of felony insurance fraud after a California Department of Insurance investigation uncovered evidence that he had billed insurance companies for work he never performed.
Kenneth Webber, 71, sold his practice to another dentist in February 2013. The new dentist began performing services for the practice’s patients and billed insurance companies for the work. A number of claims were denied because they had already been billed by and paid to Webber. The California Department of Insurance began an investigation and determined that at least 60% of the patients seen by the practice had some type of fraudulent billing associated with their files. If convicted, Webber faces up to 10 years in prison.
Hire an aggressive fraud attorney
If you’re facing fraud charges related to employment, you need the assistance of an experienced, aggressive fraud attorney like Robert Helfend. Robert Helfend has established a reputation as a skilled, tenacious defense attorney, and has practiced criminal defense exclusively for more than 30 years in Los Angeles and throughout Southern California.
Employment related fraud charges can have a lasting impact on your professional career. If you are a licensed professional, a conviction can result in the loss of your professional credentials, in addition to jail time and fines. Even after you’ve completed the rest of your sentence, it may be difficult or even impossible to have your professional credentials and licenses restored. That could mean that you will never work in your chosen profession again.
The risks to your freedom and professional life are simply too great to rely on an inexperienced attorney. Do not choose an inexperienced defender, and don’t attempt to defend yourself in court, or during professional licensure hearings.
