A former director for the QVC television shopping firm will spend two-and-a-half years in prison for embezzlement. James Falkowski, of Brooklyn, NY, pleaded guilty 11 counts of wire fraud and 1 count of conspiracy.
Falkowski worked as a director for QVC. Between 2008 and 2013, he submitted fraudulent invoices for travel expenses and luxury services. In the five year span, the company paid more than $1,000,000 to Falkowski. In addition, Falkowski established a relationship with two QVC vendors, including a Los Angeles firm, that aided Falkowski’s fraud. The companies agreed to submit fraudulent invoices to the company, and divided the profits with Falkowski. In exchange, Falkowski helped the companies negotiate better royalties over time. The companies also paid Falkowski kickbacks from the enhanced royalty scheme.
Falkowski spent most of the money on luxury items, including first-class travel, spa treatments, dining, clothing and Botox injections. Federal investigators indicted Falkowski in 2017. A federal judge ordered him to serve 30 months in prison, and repay more than $832,000 in restitution to QVC.
